Carbon Capture Pipeline meeting May 1 at Titonka
Farmers and landowners in Hancock, Kossuth, and 56 other Iowa counties are affected by a proposed liquefied carbon dioxide pipeline, especially by the question of whether eminent domain should be used by the pipeline companies to acquire easements on land.
The liquefied carbon dioxide is proposed to be captured from Iowa ethanol plants and transported in the proposed pipeline across Iowa to be permanently stored in bedrock formations, thus removing an amount of greenhouse gas from the atmosphere. Currently, this carbon capture and storage (CCS) project is being promoted by Summit Carbon Solutions, LLC, and its subsidiary, SCS Carbon Transport, LLC.
In response to this proposed pipeline, the permit for which is under review by the Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC), local landowners invite the public to a meeting on Thursday, May 1, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Buffalo Creek Community Center, 543 Dieckmann St. NE, Titonka, Iowa.
Meeting attendees will learn about the history and purpose of this CCS project, and how to participate in the IUC process.
