Leesanne S. Thomas
Leesanne S. Thomas, 86, of Garner, passed away on December 19, 2024 in Garner.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner, with Rev. Brian Lund officiating. Burial will take place at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh, Iowa.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 29, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Cataldo Funeral Chapel.
Born on March 18, 1938, in Des Moines, Leesanne was the daughter of Paul and Helen (Hauser) Powers. She was raised in Des Moines and graduated from North High School. Leesanne went on to pursue higher education at Iowa State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in art. On May 1, 1962, she was married to Charles Thomas at the United Methodist Church in Lehigh, where they established their home and raised two daughters, Mary and Sis. Leesanne later continued her education by obtaining a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Iowa Central Community College. While assisting her husband with his veterinary practice at Fort Dodge Animal Hospital, she also served as a tutor at Iowa Central Community College. She worked for 12 years at Fort Dodge Labs where she retired.
Leesanne came out of retirement and worked for Christ Furniture in Eagle Grove for several years. She loved the Christ people and the job. Notably, Leesanne became the first woman to serve on the Trinity Regional Hospital Board in Fort Dodge, a position she held for many years. In 1996, Leesanne and Doc moved to Thor. Following Doc's passing in 2013, she resided in Thor until 2015, when she moved to Garner to be closer to her family. Throughout her life, she cherished family activities and was active in 4-H as a club leader for the Burnside Promoters during her daughters' school years, assisting them in horse shows.
Leesanne attended Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner, was a dedicated member of the Progressive Club in Garner and belonged to the Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary (Ted) Greiman and Sis (Cory) Greiman, both of Garner; four grandchildren: Kyle Greiman (special friend, Macy) of Garner, Cole (Bayley) Greiman of Rock Valley, Morgan (Randy) Nosbisch and their sons, Coy and Charlie of North Washington, Iowa, and Zachary Greiman of Garner; as well as a brother, Tom Powers of Lake of the Ozarks, MO; a sister, Margaret Griffith of Carroll, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leesanne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie “Doc”; and a brother, Phillip Powers.
