Mazie "Mickey" Weiss

Mazie “Mickey” Margaret Weiss, 87, of Kanawha, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 139 3rdStreet South East in Britt with Father Andrew Marr officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.  

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Ewing Funeral Home, 178 Center Street West in Britt.

Mazie was born March 5, 1937 to Henry and Mazie (Staylor) Precht in Baltimore, Maryland. She lived on a farm in Pennsylvania for a short time before returning to Baltimore. Later, she moved to North Carolina where she met her husband Edward Weiss at Camp Lejeune Marine Base on a blind date. They married in 1976.

In 1991, they moved to Iowa to be closer to family. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking for her family, thrifting, and spending time with family and friends. She attended St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt.

She is survived by her children Margaret Harrison (John), Daniel Jones (Dreama), Phillip Jones (Marquita), Nicole Weiss, Holly Weiss-Chipman (Chancy), 27 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward Weiss Jr., siblings Rowland Williams, Larry Williams, and Eleanor Scheufele, her daughter Michelle Brown, and sons Henry Jones and Andrew Jones.
