Jermeland wins GOP Primary race for supervisor

Osmund “Bud” Jermeland, Forest City, won the GOP nomination for Hancock County Supervisor, according to the unofficial results of the June 4 Primary election.
Jermeland’s name will be on the ballot for the November General Election. A total 577 votes were cast for Jermeland. 
His opponent, Josh Crawford, Garner, received 138 votes in the Primary Election.
The incumbent candidates for Auditor, Sheriff and County Attorney were all unopposed. All are Republicans. Primary election results are as follows:
County Auditor Michelle K. Eisenman – 648 votes
County Sheriff Rob Gerdes Jr. – 671 votes
County Attorney Rachel Martinez – 613 votes.
There were no candidates on the Democratic ballot for county office.
State Senate
Incumbent State Senator Dennis Guth, Klemme, will again be the Republican nominee for the District 28 State Senate seat. He was unopposed in the Primary.
Guth received 654 votes from Hancock County Republicans. The GOP vote for Guth in the rest of District 28 was: Franklin County - 385; Hamilton County -886 votes; Humboldt County - 455 votes; Story County - 116 votes; and Wright County – 977 votes.
The Democratic Party nominee for the state senate seat is Cynthia Oppedal Paschen of Jewell. Paschen received 76 votes from Hancock County Democrats. The Democratic vote elsewhere in the district is as follows: Franklin County – 71 votes; Hamilton County – 113; Humboldt County – 78 votes; Story County – 57 votes; Wright County – 73 votes.
Iowa House of Representatives
Incumbent Mark I Thompson of Clarion will be the Republican nominee for the Iowa House of Representatives, District 56. Thompson, who was unopposed in the Primary, received 647 votes from Hancock County Republicans; Humboldt – 489 votes; Wright County – 913 votes.
Thompson’s challenger in November will be Kyle Kruse of Hardy, Iowa. The Democratic Primary vote for Kruse was: Hancock County – 75 votes; Humboldt County – 79 votes; Wright County – 66 votes.
U.S. House of Representatives
Congressman Randy Feenstra (R-Hull), survived a Primary Election challenge for Iowa’s 4th District Congressional seat against Kevin Virgil of Sutherland.
However, in Hancock County, Feenstra lost to Virgil by a vote of 264 to 445.
The 4th District includes 36 counties. The GOP unofficial Primary vote for the 4th District was Feenstra – 26,763, Virgil – 17,648.
Feenstra will again face Democrat Ryan Melton of Nevada in November. Melton received 79 votes from Hancock County. District wide, the total was 6,474 votes in the Democratic Primary.
