BRITT - Miss Iowa 2023 winner and Miss America qualifier Alysa Goeth visited Britt on May 8 as part of her one-year career as Miss Iowa. Goeth visited the Britt Public Library during after-school hours to spend time with the children of Britt. Attendants listened to her speak about the competition, played games, and built tiaras out of pipe cleaners.
Born in Davenport, Goeth began competing for the title of Miss Iowa when she was a teenager. She attended Drake University in Des Moines and went on to work as a music teacher. She currently resides in Urbandale. During her 14 years of attempts, she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Goeth pushed on in spite of her condition and attributes her dedication in the face of adversity as a major reason for her success.
After winning in 2023, Goeth moved on to the national competition, where she and the other states lost to Miss Colorado. Despite the loss, she was immensely proud of herself. “Miss Iowa was my goal,” claims Goeth. “Nationals was just the cherry on top.” Since then, she has traveled the state, performing both her duties as Miss Iowa and also spreading awareness about Type 1 Diabetes. She plans to work with Iowa Diabetes as part of their marketing and outreach team once she passes the crown to the next Miss Iowa in the summer.
Goeth met with Britt’s citizens at the city library, where she first spoke to and answered questions about the competition. She then read a short picture book made by an unnamed third grader about Type 1 Diabetes and the Pancreas, followed by a game of Simon Says. The meetup concluded with an arts and crafts session, where kids built pipe cleaner tiaras. This is the 69th town Goeth has visited and will likely not be the last.
“This experience has been an honor, the greatest honor of my lifem actually. Thank you," said Goeth
