Meet the candidates for county Fair Queen!

BRITT – Five young ladies will vie for the title of 2023 Hancock County Fair Queen tonight. The pageant will begin 5:30 p.m.

Each contestant will give a two-minute talk on the topic, “What did you learn during the COVID-19 lockdown?” The winner will represent Hancock County at the Iowa State Fair Queen Pageant in August.

Corrina Kingis the daughter of Stacey King of Britt. Corrina is a member of the Orthel Jolly workers 4-H Club where she has held several offices. She is a member of the 4-H County Council.

She is Girl Scout and worked as a camp counselor at Camp Tanglefoot. Since 2004, Corrina is involved as a junior member of American Legion Auxiliary. She was a Girl’s State delegate.

Corrina is 2023 graduate of West Hancock High School. During her high school career she was a member of the National Honor Society, FFA, cheerleading, volleyball, basketball and track. Other school activities were SWAT, Eagle Buddies, yearbook, pep club, speech, drama, band and choir.

Jenna Pringnitz,Garner, is the daughter of Jerry and Karrie Pringnitz. A member of the Concord Challengers 4-H Club, Jenna has several club offices. As a member of the Hancock County 4-H Council, Jenna has been involved with numerous community service projects.

Jenna will be a senior at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura High School where she is a member of Iowa River FFA Chapter and GHV Student Council. Other school activities include cross country, softball, National Youth Tour, basketball, speech, FCCLA, Soccer, and yearbook. 

She is a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and involved in church related-activities.

Elise Wirtjesof Forest City is the daughter of Greg and Kristi Wirtjes. A student at Forest City High School, she was named a top student for hard work ethic skills by the National Society of High School Scholars. She was Team Media Site manager for Forest City High School Cross Country. 

During the 2022-23 school year, Elise was a teacher assistant at Forest City Elementary School and tutored elementary students in a classroom setting.

Other school activities include cross country, cheerleading, student council, track and field and marching band.

She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and an active in her church youth group at first Baptist Church. She helps with farm operations on the family farm. 

Hannah Barkerof Britt is the daughter of Brandi Hadacek. Hannah is a student at West Hancock Community School where she is involved in SWAT (Student Wellnes Advocate Team. She volunteers at the Hobo Museum in Britt and is active in Saint Patrick’s Youth Ministry.

A member of Orthel Jolly Workers 4-H, Hannah has held several offices. She presently is club treasurer.

She a member of the Alliance Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (ASAP) and has participated in several substance abuse awareness activities with that group.

Sydney Tue –Sydney Tue of Britt is also a candidate for Hancock County Fair Queen. Unfortunately, her biography and photo were unavailable in time for publication. 

Fair Princess

The 2023 Fair Princess contest will be held at 5 p.m., prior to the queen contest.
