Mark A. Boehnke
Mark A. Boehnke, 78, of Garner, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 6, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church east of Garner with Rev. Mark Lund officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, May 5that Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4thSt., Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Garner Volunteer Ambulance Service or Garner Fire Department.
Mark Allan Boehnke, the son of Arthur and Lillian (Hollatz) Boehnke, was born on December 31, 1944, in Garner. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church. He attended St. John's Parochial School until the third grade before graduating from Garner-Hayfield High School in 1962. He went on to obtain a business degree from Luther College in Decorah. During college he worked part-time delivering for Mabes Pizza in Decorah. Mark proudly served his country in the US Air Force from July of 1966 to July of 1970. After basic training in San Antonio, Texas, he went to Shepherd Air Force Base in Texas for his technical school training to learn how to run computers. From there he was assigned to Tacoma, WA where he continued his job in the Air Force with IBM computers. On January 22, 1972, he married Roseann Legler at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City. They lived on a farm east of Garner where he farmed with his brothers and cousin. Mark enjoyed driving around the countryside with Roseann to see crops and farmland. He took pleasure in time spent with family and watching his grandchildren's events.
He was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church. In his younger years, he was active in church league softball playing for the St. John Johnny's.
Mark is survived by his wife, Roseann Boehnke of Garner; his son, Dan (Sue) Boehnke of Garner; son-in-law, Matt Graham of Garner; four grandchildren, Maddie and Mason Graham and Brody and Braden Boehnke all living in Garner; a brother, Dale (Annette) Boehnke of McKinley, TX; a sister, Ruth Chiko of McKinley, TX; sisters-in-law, Sharon Boehnke of Garner and DeeEtta (Mike) Hollatz of Garner and Arla Murray Juhl of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Graham in August of 2021; brothers, Robert (Karen) Boehnke and Philip Boehnke; and brothers-in-law, Carl Chiko and Steve Juhl.
