Garner to Commemorate The Way of the Cross
GARNER – The seven words of Jesus from the cross will be commemorated during the annual Way of the Cross Walk beginning 12 noon on Good Friday, April 15. The Garner Ministerial Association invites the public to participate.
This year the route begins at Zion Evangelical & Reformed Church, 760 W. 8th St. Pastor Brian Lund will lead a mediation the words of Jesus recorded in Luke 23:34, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”
The next stop will be at the Veterans Memorial Recreation Center, 359 W 8th. Pastor David Wick of the Garner Evangelical Free Church, will lead a meditation on John 19:26-27, “Woman, behold your son! Behold your mother!”
The route proceeds to Garner Extension Service building where a representative from Concord Care Center will read from Psalm 22:16,18 “They have pierced my hands and feet…”
At St. Boniface Catholic Church, 600 Bush Ave., Father Joseph Sevick will read the words of Jesus recorded in Luke 23:43, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th, will be the next stop on the route. Dean Cataldo will read from Matthew 27:46, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
From there, the walk proceeds to The United Presbyterian Church, 885 Maben. Pastor David Skilling will lead a mediation on John 19:28, “I thirst.”
The United Methodist Church, 885 Maben, is the location for the words of Jesus recorded in John 19:30, “It is finished.” John Bowman will lead the mediation.
The final stop is at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 810 State St. Pastor Scott Kozisek will read from Luke 23:46, “Father into your hands I commit my spirit.”
