Write-in votes are a significant factor in some city elections

Write-in votes were a significant factor in the outcome of Nov. 2 city elections at Klemme, Goodell and at Corwith. Hancock County Auditor Michelle Eisenman posted updated results from the election on Friday that included the write-in names in those communities.

The Hancock County Board of Supervisors will canvass the election on Monday. Candidates have until Friday, Nov. 12 to file for a recount.

Garner

Tim Schmidt was elected mayor with 580. Fourteen write-in votes were also cast for mayor.

Don Bell was reelected to another term. Bell received 310 votes.

There will be two new faces on the Garner City Council. Amber Jenniges was the top vote-getter with 458 votes. Damon Quandt was also elected with 419 votes.

Other vote totals are: Jennifer Breister – 259, Mark Kaczor – 209; write-in - 8

Britt

Ryan Arndorfer was reelected to another term as Mayor of Britt with 197 votes. Candidate Jay Ryerson received 162 votes. Three write-in votes for mayor were cast.

Chad Luecht was returned to the city council with 207 votes. Ashley Weiss will be the new member on the council. Weiss received 277 votes.

Seven scattered write-in votes were also cast.

Klemme

Ken Blank received 25 write-in votes for mayor. Blank is the current mayor of Klemme. Shannon Boge-Miller received 23 votes. 

There were also 5 other  write-in votes for mayor.

James R. Menke and David Abele were reelected to the Klemme City Council. Menke received 49 votes and Abele received 40 votes.

Shannon Boge-Miller received 14 write-in votes to fill a third seat on the council. Boge-Miller is currenly a member on the city council.

 There were  also 28 other write-in votes. 

Tim Jergenson was elected to a 2-year term on the council to fill a vacancy. Jergenson received 49 votes. Ten write-in votes were also cast for the seat.

Goodell

At Goodell, 15 write-in votes were cast for Wayne DuVall for mayor to unseat Ryan Halfpop. Halfpop received 14 votes. 

There was 1 other write-in vote for mayor at Goodell. 

All three candidates for city council were reelected. Karen Green was the top vote-getter with 30 votes. Mark Stille received 27 votes. Twenty-nine votes were cast for Barbara Schaefer.

One write-in vote for city council was cast.

Corwith

Matt Hobscheidt was reelected mayor of Corwith with 34 votes. One write-in vote for mayor was cast.

Tim Poage was also reelected to the Corwith City Council with 30 votes.

As of Friday, a second seat on the Corwith City Council was still undecided due to a tie amongst 19 write-in votes that were cast. The Hancock County Board of Supervisors will draw the name of the winner on Monday.

Kanawha

Voters elected three to the city council at Kanawha. Incumbents Jeremy Purvis (61 votes) and Judy Vander Ploeg (58 votes) were reelected. Carmen Myers will be the new member on the council. She received 48 votes.

One write-in vote was also cast for city council.

Woden

Paul Buns was elected Mayor of Woden. Buns received 33 votes. Twenty-five write-in votes were also cast for mayor.
