Candidates file for Nov. 2 City, School Elections

There are several contested races for the Tuesday, Nov. 2 elections for mayor/city council and school board. The deadline for candidates to file nomination papers to be on the ballot was Thursday, Sept. 16. 

CITY ELECTIONS 

Garner

Tim Schmidt has announced his candidacy for mayor. Schmidt currently serves on the Garner City Council.

Garner voters will elect three to the city council. Candidates are incumbent councilman Donald Bell and challengers Amber Jenniges, Damon Quandt, Jennifer Breister and Mark C. Kaczor.

Britt

Mayor Ryan Arndorfer is a candidate for re-election. He is being challenged by Jay Ryerson.

Two seats on the Britt City Council are open. Candidates are incumbent Chad Luecht and Ashley Weiss.

Corwith

Mayor Matt Hobscheidt is unopposed in his bid for re-election at Corwith.

Two seats on the Corwith City Council are open. Councilman Tim Poage has filed for re-election. 

Klemme

Shannon Boge-Miller has declared her candidacy for mayor. Boge-Miller currently serves on the city council.

Klemme voters will elect three to the city council. Candidates are David Abele and incumbent James R. Menke. A third seat will be filled by write-in ballot.

Tim Jergenson is a candidate for an unexpired term on the Klemme City Council.

Kanawha

Three seats on the Kanawha City Council are open. Candidates are: incumbents Jeremy Purvis and Judy Vander Ploeg, and challenger Carmen Myers.

Crystal Lake

Shawn R. Dontje is a candidate for mayor of Crystal Lake.

Voters will elect two to the city council. Doris Haugland and Nicholas Moore seek re-election to the council. Challengers are Karen Pergande and Diane M. Smith.

Woden

Paul Buns is a candidate for mayor of Woden. 

Voters at Woden will elect three to the city council. Councilmen Jeff Stucki and James Warren Shanks Sr. are up for re-election. Challengers are Dylan Brandt, David Ewald, William L. Rout and Paul TerBeek.

Goodell

Ryan Halfpop seeks re-election to another term as mayor.

Candidates for three seats on the city council are Karen Green, Barbara Schaefer and Mark Stille. All are currently on the city council.

SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS

Garner-Hayfield-Ventura

Three at-large positions on the Garner-Hayfield Board of Education expire in 2021. Jay Larkin and Jack Toppin are candidates for re-election. Challengers are Dan Goll and Scott Gaskill.

West Hancock

The only contested race at West Hancock is for the Director District 3 seat. Incumbent board member Jay Burgardt is being challenged by Jennifer Weiland.

Candidates for other Director District seats on the school board are:

At-Large – Jon Harle 

District 1 – Angela Johnson

At-Large (to fill a vacancy) – Jennifer Bixel

District 4 (to fill a vacancy) – Kevin Wilson

All are currently serving on West Board of Education.

COUNTY PUBLIC MEASURE

Also on the ballot is a county public measure to enter into a proposed loan agreement to issue general obligation bonds not exceeding $4.6 million for the construction of new Secondary Road Department maintenance building at Britt.
