COVID-19 Coronavirus proclamation for City of Garner

Ken Mick (Mayor), in following the lead of Gov. Reynolds and communities across Iowa, has issued an Emergency Proclamation. Here's what you need to know:

1.    Beginning on Wednesday, March 18th at Noon, all city buildings will be closed to public access until further notice. This includes City Hall, the Veterans Memorial Rec Center, Fire Station, Police Dept., Public Works Dept. etc. City staff will continue to work regular hours. 

2.    Residents may do business with the city via telephone by calling 641-923-2588, or by appointment only.  You can utilize our payment options at the drop box located outside city hall. If you are having trouble paying your water bill, please contact us at the above phone numbers listed.

3.    City council meetings will be discontinued until April 7th.

4.    The Public Library will be closed beginning on Wednesday, March 18th until further notice. Library staff will accept requests for loaning books/audio tapes. Curbside pickup will take place Monday through Friday from 11am-6pm. Returns may be placed in the exterior drop box if needed. Please call 641-923-2850 to reach library staff.

5.    The Garner Education Center Building will be closed and available by appointment only. Please call 641-923-2588 City Hall, 641-923-2252 NIACC, and 641-923-2856 Iowa State Extension Office for an appointment.

6.    The proclamation will allow full time staff who were planning to be hired or start during this time to start work.

7.    That this Proclamation of Emergency may be modified and/or superseded by future proclamation of the Office of the Mayor of Garner as future events warrant.

8.    That any violation of any proclamation of the Office of the Mayor of the City of Garner, Iowa, shall be enforceable by the Garner Police Department and any violation of the same shall be a violation of Section 372.14(2) of the Code of Iowa (2019) and punishable as a simple misdemeanor.
