Susan A. Hrubes, 72, of La Porte City, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

A memorial mass will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2024, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt with Fr. Andrew Marr officiating. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service at the church with burial to follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Duncan.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Porte City and will resume one hour prior to services at the church in Britt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt.

Susan Ann Hrubes, the daughter of Glen and Louise (Kramer) Thompson, was born December 29, 1951, in Mankato, MN.  Sue graduated from Woden-Crystal Lake High School and attended NIACC. On July 25, 1970, she was married to Marvin Hrubes at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt.  Sue was the Deputy City Clerk for the City of La Porte City and then was the office manager for La Porte City Utilities. Sue (mom, grandma, wife) was always focused on caring for others. She had the best advice and approach to raising us kids. Once we were grown, she embraced the role of grandma to her "Grands" - continuing to share her love and provide for others. Sue loved cooking, quilting, and knitting hats for newborns. She was kind and truly selfless. Sue was an amazing wife, and a spectacular mom and grandma.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Porte City.

Sue is survived by her husband, Marvin of La Porte City; daughter, Kristi (Todd) Butler of La Porte City; son, Mike (Julia) Hrubes of Alexandria, MN; four grandchildren, Torie, Tia, Scott, and Ryan; her sister, Linda Rawitzer of Tucson, AZ; sister-in-law, Karen Thompson of Medford, OR; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Terry Thompson; and brothers-in-law,. Bill Rawitzer and Roger Hrubes
