Rough Week for Cards Football
OSAGE – On Friday, Sept. 1, the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura football team (0-2) took on the Osage Green Devils (1-1) and lost by a score of 0-45.
The Green Devils started the game strong, scoring 19 points in the first quarter. The Cardinals made adjustments in the second, only giving up seven points to go into halftime down 0-26. The second half saw the Green Devils come out strong again to score 19 points in the third quarter. The fourth was scoreless for the final.
The Cards were held to 36 yards of total offense while giving up 210 yards through the air and 180 on the ground. GHV went 2/11 through the air, passing for one yard. They ran the ball 28 times for 35 yards. The Cards totaled 44 tackles, two of them going for a loss. They also recovered a fumble in the contest.
Jacob Greiman was the team’s leading passer, connecting on a perfect 1/1 for three yards. Aiden Hawe went 1/10 for negative yardage. Aydan Ganseveld had a catch for three yards. Lucas Kral also had a catch.
Kral was the team’s leading rusher, taking 11 carries for 29 yards. Parker Stearns had three carries for 17 yards.
Andrew Hook led the Cards on defense with six and a half tackles, five of which were solo, and one went for a loss. Gage Konz was close behind with six tackles, three were solo. Stearns tallied five and a half tackles, three were solo and one went for a loss.
Kral had four and a half tackles, three were solo. Nicholas Zrostlik and Karter Datema each had four tackles with four of Zrostlik’s being solo tackles, and three of Datema’s being solos. Parker Moritz had three and a half tackles, one was solo.
