Visitation was held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, March 14, 2025 at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt and will continue an hour prior to services on Saturday.

Roger Larry Flaten, the son of Ardell and Marcella (Sletten) Flaten, was born on March 3, 1947 in Mayville, North Dakota. In 1959, the family moved to Iowa and settled in Klemme in 1961.

Roger was trained as a machinist and worked in various auto body shops including Jerry’s Auto Body in Mason City and Don’s Auto Body in Clear Lake, before opening his own shop. In 1986, he founded and operated Eagle Auto Body in Britt, serving the community for nearly four decades until Roger’s health required his retirement.

Roger was united in marriage to Barbara Wiemann on May 1st, 1971 at the Klemme Lutheran Church. To this Union, four daughters were born. The couple raised their girls in Clear Lake and moved to Britt in 1987.

Roger was deeply involved in his community. He was an active member of the Lion’s Club, played Santa Claus, and through his business, he mentored many high school students. For many years, Roger participated in demolition derbies and took his experience and knowledge to help out with the ones held at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. He served as a volunteer firefighter for 23 years.

While Roger valued community, his family was his greatest priority. A proud “girl dad”, he cherished every moment spent with his daughters and even made weekend trips to the junkyard fun. He never missed an opportunity to tease or embarrass them. He found joy in getting into trouble with his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time at the family cabin on Tuttle Lake, visiting with friends and relatives in and out of state, riding his motorcycle, working in the yard and attending to his raised garden beds.

He will be remembered for his sense of humor, strength, generosity and kindness.

He is survived by his four daughters, Kari (Matthew) Madson and children Nicole (Jordan), Wesley, and Kimberly, Kristi (Dick) Ostercamp and children Scott (Sarah), Steven (Alyssa), Joshua and Jackie (Seth), Kyla Flaten and children Alex (Kara) and Audry (Chance), Katie (Derrick) Spieker and children Dalten, Mackenzie, Landon and Remington; great-grandchildren Adelaide, Ian, Peyton, Emberlee, Waylan, Oaklynn, Aspen and Sophia; sister Susan (George) Johnson; brother Wayne (Jan) Flaten along with many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Rick Flaten.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks and gratitude for the attention and care Roger has received over the years from the exceptional staff at the Hancock County Health Systems Hospital and Clinic as well as the staff at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
