Overgaard Earns 1st Team All State

BOONE – On Thursday and Friday, May 29-30, Aubrey Overgaard and Sydney Helgeson represented the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls golf team at the Class 2A State Tournament. 

Overgaard placed 15th overall by carding rounds of 43 and 45 for a score of 88 on Thursday and rounds of 43 and 39 for a score of 82 on Friday. 

Additionally, Overgaard earned First Team All State honors as well as Academic All State honors from the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association. 

Helgeson placed 36th overall with Thursday rounds of 50 and 48 for a score of 98, with rounds on Friday of 47 and 43 for a score of 90. 

“Both Audrey and Sydney were a little disappointed with their play on both days but when looking at the big picture they realized that finishing the season competing at the state tournament is a great way to end their high school careers,” said GHV Head Coach Todd Greiman. 

Overgaard and Helgeson will play one more time as Cardinals in the State Coed Meet on June 10th in Marshalltown where they will pair with Nolan Lortz and Colby Hagensick in an alternate shot tournament.

“Both girls were key contributors to the program during their four years on the varsity squad and the team compiled an impressive overall win-loss record of 133-29 in that time. When you consider that almost half of those losses were recorded in the team's two state tournament appearances, that record is even more impressive,” said coach Greiman.  

After high school, Overgaard will continue competitive play by joining the NIACC golf team, while Helgeson will be playing with the DMACC team.
