Margaret "Marge" Oborny
GARNER – Margaret “Marge” A. Oborny, 78, died Saturday, November 13, 2021 at her home in Garner.
A funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 22, 2021 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan with Rev. Fr. Andrew Marr officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Cataldo Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Duncan.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, November 21, 2021 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan with a combined Catholic Workman FCSLA and Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 1:30 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 5 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Masks are suggested at both the visitation and funeral mass.
Margaret Ann Oborny, the daughter of James and Beatrice (Malek) Kofron, was born February 19, 1943 at Forest City. She attended school at Hayfield and played basketball, was involved in FFA, and was president of her 4-H club. Later, when Hayfield consolidated with Garner, she graduated from Garner-Hayfield High School in 1961.
She met her husband, Francis on a blind date and married May 4, 1964 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan. They had four children and lived in Duncan for 38 years. In 2000, they moved to Garner. She was a waitress at Irene’s Cafe in Garner in 1960, then worked with her dad at Flyer Farms in Forest City. Marge did daycare out of her home and waitressed at the Halfway House in Duncan. She worked at A&W Restaurant in Britt, Lauridsen Foods in Britt, and worked 25 years and retired from Winnebago Stitchcraft in 2007. After retirement, she worked at the elementary school in the cafeteria, reading with students, and cleaning at Zinpro.
She was a member of the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Rosary Society, Catholic Workman FCSLA, Catholic Daughters of Americas, Garfield Hobby Club, and Birthday Club. Marge enjoyed reading her daily bible readings, visiting and shopping with friends and family, gardening, cooking, baking, interacting on Facebook, and spending time with family and grandkids. Marge was well known for her cooking of dumplings and sauerkraut, baking of her angel food cakes, pies and peanut M&M popcorn balls. She made her kids and grandkids feel special by always making their favorite treat for their birthdays.
Marge will always be remembered for her smiling face, generosity, and giving/caring spirit. Her strong faith was a great example to all those who loved her.
Marge is survived by her husband of 57 years, Francis of Garner; four children: son, Michael (Nickki) Oborny of Garner and their two sons, Skylar and Austin Oborny; daughter, Mary (JR) Ort of Clear Lake and their three sons, Kyle (Angelina) Ort and their son, Kylan, Kody (Alex) Ort and their Baby O due in January and Kollin Ort; daughter, Diane Borchardt of Mason City and her two children, Shanda and Cole Borchardt; and son, Bob (Melissa) Oborny of Ankeny and their three children, Kayla, Derek and Will Oborny. She is also survived by her brothers, Bernie (Karen) Kofron of Forest City, Roger (Connie) Kofron of Leland and Tom Kofron of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Beatrice Kofron; and brother, Jim (Barb) Kofron.
