Linda Mae Hamilton
Linda Mae Hamilton, 76, of Hampton, formerly of Garner, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at her home. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2024, at Woodley Funeral Home in Hampton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Hampton United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at Maynes Grove Cemetery in rural Hampton. Woodley Funeral Home of Hampton is caring for Linda and her family.
Linda Mae Hamilton was born September 11, 1947, in Garner, Iowa, daughter of Fred and Vera (Woiwod) Weiss. She graduated from Garner High School, class of 1965. Linda then attended AIB College of Business in Des Moines. On April 27, 1969, she was united in marriage to John Hamilton in Garner. To this union, one son was born.
After graduating from college, Linda worked at General Mills in Des Moines. When she and John moved to Hampton, Linda worked at Franklin General Hospital as a secretary, in the business office, and then as the purchasing agent. Linda was a member of the Franklin General Hospital Auxiliary. She made many friends while working at the hospital and had formed a coffee group that would meet every Wednesday at Rustic Brew in Hampton.
Linda was an active member of Hampton United Methodist Church, where she was involved in several church committees and taught Sunday School. She organized the Tree of Hope at Franklin General Hospital, along with other fundraisers, and was also a volunteer for La Luz in Hampton. Linda even volunteered during the Des Moines flood.
Linda enjoyed mowing the lawn, gardening and being outdoors. She was a Miss Piggy collector, as well. Linda loved her two grandchildren very much, as well as her cats and dog.
Linda is survived by her husband of almost 55 years, John Hamilton of Hampton; son Jeff (Jennifer) Hamilton of Clive; grandchildren Megan and Matthew Hamilton of Clive; sister Sharon (Art) Hitz of Polk City; nephew Brian Hitz of Des Moines; along with numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant sister Carol Ann Weiss.
