Leader wins INA award

GARNER - The Leader was the recipient of an award at the 2025 Iowa Newspaper Association and Trade Show, Feb. 6 in Des Moines.

Rebecca Peter, editor, placed first in Best News Feature category (Class ll weekly papers) for her story titled, Garner “Atomic Service” Veteran Awarded Medal. The article was published in the Feb. 7, 2024 edition of The Leader.

Judges comment: What an amazing article about a soldier who saw what none of us can imagine. I was spellbound in reading it. Good job.

“It was a privilege to share the story of Carl Young’s service to the country,” Peter said.

Other Mid-America newspapers receiving awards were the Hampton Chronicle, Wright County Monitor, Calmar Courier, Postville Herald and Sigourney News-Review

Contest entries were judged by the Kansas Press Association. Approximately 3,200 entries in dozens of categories were judged by class, based on circulation.
