Kanawha prepares for 75th Labor Day celebration

KANAWHA - The Kanawha Youth Activity Group recently announced the schedule of events for the 75thannual Labor Day weekend celebration, Sept. 3-5, 2022.

Saturday, Sept. 3

Festivities start with a pancake breakfast, 6:30 – 10 a.m. at the City Park shelter house. 

A tractor ride will depart at 8:30 a.m. from West 3rd(north side of City Park). The ride will return to the park by 3 p.m. at which time, awards will be announced.

At softball tournament will take place at the ball diamond at 10 a.m.

The day ends with a street dance at 8 p.m. featuring the music of the Kraft Brothers.

Sunday, Sept. 4

A community worship service will take place 9:30 a.m. at Kanawha City Park. Bring lawn chairs. In case of rain, it will be held at Kanawha Lutheran Church.

At 1 p.m. a beanbag tournament will be held in front of the Town Tap.

Events return to the Kanawha City Park at 5 p.m. where Little Mr. and Miss Kanawha will be named. 

The 2022 Miss Kanawha will be crowned immediately after.

The Kanawha Youth Activity group will be serving a pork loin sandwich meal (free will donation).

Stay for a showing of Disney’s “Encanto” at 6:30 p.m. Bring blankets and chairs. In case of rain the film will be shown at the Kanawha Fire Station.

Monday, Sept. 5

Labor Day morning starts “bright and early” with a pancake breakfast. 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the City Park shelter house.

The big Labor Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. Ally Eliason will be the 2022 parade grand marshal.

There will be plenty of food and fun for all throughout the afternoon.

The Kanawha Car Klassic (featuring cars, bikes, tractors and trucks) begins 11 a.m. Entrants will line up along Main Street in front of the Town Tap after the parade. People’s Choice winners will be announced at 2 p.m.

Other activities include a water balloon toss (11:30 a.m.), bake walk (12 noon), and kids power pedal pull at 1 p.m. (registration at 12:30 p.m.)
