James Trulson

James Trulson, 98, of Britt, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Hancock County Health System in Britt.

Memorial service for James Trulson will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at First Lutheran Church, 70 5thAvenue Northwest in Britt with Pastor Anna Wolf officiating.  

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

James Arthur Trulson was born on February 27, 1924 in Britt, Iowa to Alfred and Jessie Hall Trulson. On June 19, 1943 James (Jim) was married to Charlotte Irene Houdeshell, and he left to serve in the Army Air Corps the next day.  Jim and Charlotte were married for 71 years.  They raised 4 children, a daughter and 3 sons.

Jim started Jim's Courtesy Motors in 1951, now known as Trulson Auto Parts and Service. In addition to running his business, Jim served on the Britt City Council for 20 years, and was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Britt for nearly 60 years. 

Jim was a lifelong Iowa Hawkeyes fan, and named his first cat Herky after the Hawkeye mascot.  Jim was an avid hunter and trapshooter, winning multiple awards, and he was a longtime member of the Ventura Gun Club and the National Rifle Association.  Jim's other hobbies included gardening, photography, woodworking, and as a young man he played the accordion.  Over his lifetime, Jim enjoyed a variety of pets including a horse, monkey, parakeet, ferret, raccoon, fox, skunk, many dogs, rabbits, cats and pigeons.  

Left to cherish Jim's memory are his 3 sons:  Dr. Michael (Violet) Trulson of Richardson, Texas, J. Patrick (Debra) Trulson of Britt and Timothy Trulson of Des Moines, son-in-law Marvin (Sharon) Hillenga of Mason City, 13 grandchildren:  Candi Harringa, Taffy Hillenga, Shane (Diane) Hillenga, Dr. Tamella Trulson, Anthony (Lori) Trulson, Sarah (Joshua) St. John, Justin (Beth) Trulson, Jessica Trulson, Daniel (Nicole) Trulson, Tabetha (Miles) Swanson, Broderick Trulson, Elizabeth Trulson, Benjamin Trulson, 15 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.  

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife Charlotte, his daughter Linda Hillenga, and 2 infant granddaughters, Penny Hillenga and Tracie Trulson.  

Memorials may be made out to the Britt Fire Department or the West Hancock Ambulance Service.
