Iowa Caucuses are Jan. 15

The eyes of the nation will be on Iowa on Jan. 15, as the first-in-the-nation caucuses will take place. During a presidential election year, the Iowa caucuses are generally regarded as the first step on the road towards selecting a nominee for president from the Republican and Democratic Parties.

Republican Caucus

Doors will open at Republican caucus locations will open at 5 p.m.Caucuses will begin promptly at 7 p.m.

Registered Republicans will select delegates, alternates and junior delegates to the district and state conventions and work on the county GOP platform. Copies of the county GOP platform will be available at each caucus location.

For persons who are not already registered Republicans, there will be an opportunity to do so at each caucus site. Bring your ID and proof of residency.

Your caucus location is based on the township in which you reside. Hancock County Republicans will meet at the following locations:

•Concord Township – Garner-Hayfield-Ventura High School Auditorium, 605 W. Lyon Street, Garner

•Garfield Township – Garner Education Center, 325 West 8th Street, Garner

•Madison, Ellington Townships – Senior Community Center, 125 N. 7th Street, Forest City

•Orthel, Britt, Erin Townships – Britt City Hall, 170 Main Ave. S., Britt

•Crystal, Bingham Townships – Kluver Community Center, 120 W. 5th Street, Crystal Lake

•Liberty, Ell, Avery Townships – Klemme Community Room/Library, 204 East Main, Klemme.

 

Democratic Caucus

Hancock County Democrats will meet at the lunchroom of West Hancock Elementary School, 9th Ave. SW. in Britt. All 10 precincts of Hancock County will caucus at this one location. You must be in line or signed-in by 7 p.m. to participate.

The purpose of this year’s caucus is to:

•Discuss and adopt proposed resolutions to be added to the county platform.

•Elect Unbound Delegates and Alternates to the County Convention

•Elect Precinct Committee Persons to the County Central Committee

The last day to request a Presidential Preference Card is February 19, 2024. Preference Cards will be mailed out starting on January 12, 2024.
