Iowa Caucuses are Feb. 7

Iowans will gather Monday, Feb. 7, 2022 to kick off the midterm election year with precinct caucuses. Both Republican and Democratic caucuses will begin promptly 7 p.m.

Republican Caucus

Republican caucuses will be held at two locations in Hancock County on Feb. 7. Check-in for the caucus begins at 6 p.m. Your caucus location is based on the township in which you reside.

•The Britt Municipal Building, 170 Main, is the caucus location for Republicans the following townships/precincts: Crystal (Crystal Lake), Bingham (Woden), Britt, Erin, Orthel (Britt), Garfield (Duncan), Boone, Magor (Corwith), Amsterdam, and Twin Lakes (Kanawha).

•The Garner Area Education Center, 325 W. 8th, Garner, is the caucus location for Republicans in the following townships/precincts: Madison, Ellington (Forest City), Concord (Garner), Ell, Liberty (Klemme), and Avery (Goodell).

Registered Republicans will select delegates, alternates and junior delegates to the district and state conventions and work on the county GOP platform. Copies of the county GOP platform will be available at each caucus location.

For persons who are not already registered Republicans, there will be an opportunity to do so at each caucus site. Bring your ID and proof of residency.

Democrat Caucus

Hancock County Democrats will meet at the lunchroom of West Hancock Elementary School, 9th Ave. SW. in Britt. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the caucus to start at 7 p.m.

Party business includes approving resolutions for the party platform committee to review, as well as signing petitions for candidates for local, state, and federal office.

The Democratic caucus is being run by the local Hancock County Democrats central committee. There will be an opportunity for participants to get involved with the committee activities.

“All registered Democrats are invited to attend,” said John Bowman, county co-chair. “You will be able to register as a Democrat at the caucus, so come join us in this grass roots caucus and experience democracy in action.”

Due to changing conditions surrounding covid-19 in Iowa, masks will be required to attend the 2022 Iowa Democratic caucuses.
