Investigation into Shooting Near Britt

HANCOCK COUNTY – Authorities are investigating a shooting near Britt that occurred on Wednesday, June 19. 

According to a press release from the Hancock Country Sheriff’s Office, the Hancock County Communications center received a 911 call reporting a shots fired incident in the 1100 block of 270thStreet outside of Britt.

The Sheriff’s Office responded and discovered a male subject who had sustained a single gunshot wound. The subject was transported by ambulance to Hancock County Health Systems in Britt and later life flighted to MercyOne North Iowa in Mason City.

There is no danger to the public at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Iowa State Patrol, police departments from Britt, Kanawha, Garner and Clear Lake, Sheriff’s Offices from Wright County, Winnebago County and Kossuth County, and the West Hancock Ambulance Service.

An investigation is ongoing. No additional information will be released at this time.
