GHV voters pass bond referendum
GARNER – Voters in the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura School District handily approved a $21.4 million bond for improvements to the high school and elementary/middle school, Nov. 5.
The referendum needed a supermajority (60 percent) voter approval to pass. The measure received 67 percent approval from district voters.
The unofficial total from GHV district voters in Hancock County was 1,693 votes in favor to 604 against.
The vote in Cerro Gordo County was 561 in favor and 485 opposed.
Improvements at the elementary/middle school include new furniture, lighting, flooring and advanced HVAC controls.
At the high school an overhaul of the HVAC system was identified as one of the most urgent needs.
Additional improvements for the high school include:
•A secure, consolidated main entrance to enhance safety.
•A redesigned cafeteria and seating area.
•A new, full-service kitchen and expanded restrooms and concession areas to better serve both students and the broader community.
•Classroom upgrades similar to those in the elementary/middle school.
