GHV Trap team has first shoot of season

The first meet of the year was held Saturday, April 8 at Michell County Trap Range in Osage. It was a great start to the season as Caitlyn Bjoraker brought home the gold for the Cards placing first in the women’s division with a 45 which seemed fitting as she shot her second 25 straight (perfect round) the previous day in practice. Caitlyn edged out Osage’s Alexa Thyer – 44 and Mason City’s Mollie Conway – 41.The top 5 shooters for GHV for the day were Bjoraker, Ben Marshall – 44, Zach Thoe – 43, Austin Richardson – 40 and Ethan Dirks – 39.

Monday, April 10 the team participated in a meet at the Ventura Gun Club. Karlee Young was the 1stplace female for the day with a 48. The squad placed second to Osage (232) with 225. Members on the squad were Caitlyn Bjoraker, Zach Thoe, Ben Marshall (who shot a perfect round – 25), Sam Dodd, Ethan Dirks. It was a beautiful day for shooting. There were several shoot-offs that day.

Thursday, April 13 the team headed to Florence Recreation Trap Range in Thompson for a meet with Lake Mills, Northwood-Kensett and Central Springs. Caitlyn Bjoraker was the top female for the day and Ben Marshall tied for third in the men’s division on an incredibly, windy afternoon. 

Saturday, April 15 the Mohawks hosted a meet at Ventura Gun Club. It was an exciting day of shooting. The cards had a 3-way tie with Osage and Lake Mills with 221 and ended up 3rdfor the day. The squad earning the bronze medals were Ethan Dirks, Caitlyn Bjoraker, Zach Thoe, Sam Dodd, Ben Marshall – who also shot his second perfect round of the season. Caitlyn Bjoraker placed 3rd with a 44 in the female division behind Osage’s Alexa Thyer (1st- 46) and Lake Mills Hailey Herr (2nd– 45).

Leading up to the April 22 meet, April 19 was one of the first practices for the team. Garett Cash shot 48 – which is his best score so far this season. Ben Marshall shot his third 25 straight. At Osage on the 22, St. Ansgar hosted eight area schools, Lake Mills, Osage, GHV, Riceville, Northwood-Kensett, Glenville-Emmons and Southland. What began as a 32 degree morning with snow and wind gusts, ended up to be one of great success for the Cards! The squad of Austin Richardson, Ethan Dirks, Sam Dodd, Caitlyn Bjoraker and Zach Thoe won the gold medals with a 220. Caitlyn also took first in the female division with a 46.  A tie for first place in the men’s division between GHV’s Ethan Dirks and Northwood-Kensett’s Collin Haug resulted in Ethan bringing home the silver medal. A bronze medal was placed around the neck of GHV’s Sam Dodd as well.

GHV’s high school trap team has had success at every meet so far this season and has meets on April 24, 27 and 29, May 8 – Home Meet, 11, 13,15 – home meet May 22 and state June 3.
