GHV PPEL Election on Sept. 10
Dear Families and Staff,
On Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, our community will head to the polls to consider renewing the Garner Hayfield Ventura Community School District’s voted Physical Plant and Equipment Levy, commonly known as a PPEL.
This levy has been an important revenue source for our school district’s budget for many years and must be renewed every decade. By law, PPEL money can only be used for infrastructure and equipment repairs, purchases, and improvements.
Garner Hayfield Ventura CSD received approximately $450,000 in the recent fiscal year thanks to its voted PPEL. These funds have allowed us to address critical needs, including roof repairs, purchasing computers for students, improving our security systems, and replacing school buses.
The district is asking our voters to renew the voted PPEL which is $0.67 per $1,000 of taxable property value. A voted PPEL is common statewide, as more than 84% of school districts have this levy in place. According to the Department of Management records that date back to 2003, Garner Hayfield Ventura CSD has had voted PPEL since then. You can find more information about Garner Hayfield Ventura CSD’s voted PPEL here.
As I mentioned, election day is Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024 and the polls will be open that day from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
There will be one polling place for Hancock County voters for this election. The polling place is: Garner Public Library. There will be one polling place for Cerro Gordo County voters for this election. The polling place is: Ventura Community Center
Registered voters can cast an in-person absentee ballot starting August 21, 2024 at the Hancock County and Cerro Gordo County Auditor’s Office. This option will be available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for Hancock County voters, and 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p,.m. in Cerro Gordo County, until September 9, 2024.
Our voters also have the option of requesting a mailed absentee ballot from the County Auditor’s Office by completing a request form. The final day to request a mailed ballot is August 26, 2024. These ballots must be returned to the auditor’s office before the polls close at 8:00 p.m. on election day.
Please let me know if you have any questions. As always, thank you for your support of Garner Hayfield Ventura CSD and the students we serve! Sincerely,
Ken Kasper, Superintendent
