Gary A. Sandell
GARNER – Gary A. Sandell, 73, of Garner died Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner with Rev. Scott Kozisek officiating. Burial will be at Concord Township Cemetery in Garner.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Cataldo Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Gary Allen Sandell, the son of Floyd and Virginia (Imhoff) Sandell, was born February 21, 1949, in Fort Dodge. He grew up in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1968. Gary continued his education at Hamilton Business College in Mason City for accounting.
On September 6, 1975, he married Doris “Dort” Strayer at the Presbyterian Church in Algona. They lived all of their married life in Garner where they raised their daughter, Katherine. Gary was employed at Duncan Heights until his retirement in 2013. In November of 2016 he became a resident of Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center. He enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to music and playing bingo and checkers.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Katherine (Derrick) Halverson of Clear Lake; four grandchildren, Jacob Sandell (fiancée, Hailey) of Garner, Hope Halverson of Clear Lake, Tanner Halverson of Clear Lake and Jackson Halverson of Clear Lake; two great granddaughters, Karlee and Rylee Sandell; and four nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dort, January 14, 2013; and a sister, Sandra Stedman.
