Escort for slain Algona officer goes through Corwith

CORWITH - The route for an honorary escort for slain Algona police officer Kevin M. Cram, 33, also went through his hometown of Corwith on Friday, Sept. 15.

According to the Iowa Department of Criminal investigation, Officer Cram was shot and killed while on duty on Sept. 13. while attempting to arrest a wanted subject in Algona. 

Authorities identified the shooter as Kyle Lou Ricke, 43, of Algona, who was later apprehended near Sleepy Eye, Minn. Ricke has been charged with first degree murder.

Officer Kevin Cram was a 10-year veteran of Iowa law enforcement, serving for the Nora Springs Police Department from 2013-2015 and the Algona Police Department from 2015-2023. 

Funeral services for Officer Cram were held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the Ed & Betty Wilcox Performing Arts Center (Algona Community School) in Algona. A private graveside service was held at Corwith. 

He was a 2008 graduate of Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne High School. He was a graduate of the 251st Basic Law Enforcement Academy.

Survivors include his wife, Lara, a former member of the Britt Police Department, and three children.
