Edwin R. Boothroyd
Edwin R. Boothroyd, 78, of Britt, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Belmond Rehabilitation Center in Belmond.
Visitation was held Wednesday, Oct. 25 at Ewing Funeral Home in Britt.
Edwin was born to Edwin L. and Mary “Betty” (Paranto) Boothroyd on April 9, 1945, in Amarillo, Texas. He lived in Britt most of his life except for a few years in Florida. He graduated from Britt High School with the Class of 1964. He enjoyed football and received all-conference and all-state honors his junior and senior year.
On May 3, 1965, he married Mary Lou Moen of Clear Lake and had three sons: Todd, Anthony, and Tobias.
Ed worked in his father’s grocery store and for the City of Britt Police Department for twenty-five years, with the last twelve years as the Chief of Police.
Ed enjoyed family get-togethers, Corvettes and Harley Davidson motorcycles. Trading motorcycles was his hobby, purchasing over fifty motorcycles in his lifetime. Ed enjoyed riding his motorcycle to Key West Florida, and the mountains of Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. He made twenty-six trips to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and eleven trips to Daytona Bike Week.
Edwin is survived by his brother James of Mason City; his sons and their families: Todd and Kara Boothroyd of Clive and children Mitch, Katie (Colin) Payton, and Rachel, Tony and Kelly Boothroyd of Boone and children Tiana (Hiroki) Yonamine, Ty, Travis, Trever, Troy, and Taylor, Tobias and Bonnie Boothroyd of Britt and children Delaney, Evan and Emily; one great-granddaughter Rona Yonamine.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou Boothroyd, parents Edwin L and Mary “Betty’’ Boothroyd.
