Dean E. Hrubes

Dean E. Hrubes, 69, of Britt passed away Saturday February 22, 2025 at Westview Care Center in Britt.

A celebration of life for family and friends to honor Dean will be held March 6, 2025 at the Duncan Community Hall from 5:00-8:30pm.  

 Dean Edward Hrubes, son of John and Margaret (Pavelka) Hrubes, was born on October 13, 1955 in Britt, Iowa.  He grew up helping on the family farm and graduated from Garner Hayfield High School in 1973.  He worked a few manufacturing jobs after high school but ultimately farming was his passion and became a lifelong farmer.  He met his wife Delores (Barkema) at a Duncan Hall dance and they were united in marriage on December 10, 1977. They made their home at the family farm south of Duncan where they raised their 3 children until Delores’s passing. In 2017, Dean met his partner, Charlotte Hanson.  They were able to travel together and see various places throughout the U.S. 

 He enjoyed watching the grandkids' activities such as music concerts, sporting events, and animal showings at local & state fairs.  Dean stayed active while working on farm projects or riding his bicycle around Clear Lake.  He enjoyed checking in and socializing with the neighborhood.  Dean was known as a caring man and willing to help in any way. His generosity continues as he gave the gift of being an organ donor.  

 Dean is survived by Charlotte Hanson.  Children; Sheri Hrubes, Amanda Martin, and Chuck Hrubes.  Grandchildren; Brayden and Kinley Martin. Siblings; Darlene Boho, David (Sharon) Hrubes, and Gerry Hrubes.  Brother and Sister In-laws; Bill Elling, Ed (Cheryl) Barkema, Phyllis (Paul) Spade, and Ivan (Pam) Barkema.   Many nieces and nephews along with the Klooster/Muff families.  

 He is preceded in death by his parents; John and Margaret Hrubes.  Wife; Delores.  Siblings; Diane Elling and Kenneth Hrubes. In-laws Orval and Pearl Barkema.  Brother in-law Terry Boho and many aunts and uncles.
