Candidates file for June 2 Primary
Hancock County has only one race for county office for the June 2 Primary Election. The following candidates filed nomination papers for county office as of the March 25 deadline for the June 2 Primary (*incumbent)
County Office
Republican Party candidates for elected county office are: Board of Supervisors – *Jerry Tlach and Donny Schleusner
Auditor – Michelle K. Eisenman*
Sheriff – Robert A. Gerdes, Jr.
Democratic Party candidates – No candidates filed to run for County Auditor, Sheriff, or Supervisor.
State Representative
District 8
Terry Baxter, Garner, is a candidate for re-election to the District 8 Iowa House of Representatives seat. Baxter, a Republican, is unchallenged in the June 2 Republican Primary.
Glenn Kiss of Forest City has emerged as a Democratic Party candidate for District 8 State Representative. His name will appear on the Democratic ballot for the Primary Election.
District 8 incudes all of Hancock and Wright Counties, and a portion of Kossuth County.
State Senator, District 4
Dennis Guth*, Klemme, is a candidate for reelection to the District 4 State Senate seat for the Republican Primary. He is unopposed.
There are no Democratic Party candidates for the District 4 State Senate seat.
District 4 includes Hancock, Winnebago, Wright, Kossuth and Emmet Counties.
Congressional 4thDistrict
Congressman Steve King (R) seeks re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives, Iowa, 4thDistrict. King has 4 challengers for the nomination during the Republican Primary on June 2.
Candidates are Randy Feenstra of Hull, Steven Reeder of Arnolds Park, Bret A. Richards of Irwin and Jeremy Taylor of Sioux City.
On the Democratic primary ballot, J.D. Scholten of Sioux City is unopposed for the Primary Election.
U.S. Senator
Republican Joni Ernst is a candidate for re-election to the U.S. Senate. She is unopposed for the Republican Primary on June 2.
Five candidates seek the Democratic nomination to run against Ernst in the November. Candidates for U.S. Senate for the upcoming Democratic Primary are Michael Franken, Sioux City; Kimberly Graham, Indianola; Theresa Greenfield, Des Moines; Eddie J. Mauro, Des Moines; and Cal Woods, Des Moines.
