Burn Ban in effect for Hancock County
The Fire Chiefs of Hancock County have requested and received a Burn Ban beginning Wednesday October 2, 2024 at 11:30 a.m.
Burning during this time is allowed for:
Persons receiving a written permit from their local fire chief
Persons using outdoor fireplaces (not open fire pits)
Barbeque Grills
Burning trash in an incinerator that is made of metal, concrete, masonry or heavy one-inch wire mesh with openings no greater than 1 square inch. People can still burn their trash in areas it is legal to do so as long as they have a metal grate over it with 1 inch or less openings.
Iowa Code Section 100.40 states the State Fire Marshal may prohibit open burning on request.
