Betty Anderson

Betty Anderson, 100, of Britt, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Westview Care Center in Britt.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Betty Anderson will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 335 First Avenue Southeast in Britt, with Father Andrew Marr officiating. Lunch will follow. Burial will be at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha. 

Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rosary beginning at 9:15 a.m.

Betty Rose (DeWeerdt) Anderson, daughter of Henry and Anna (Marchand) DeWeerdt, was born on September 16, 1924, on the family farm southeast of Britt, Iowa.

She attended country school through the 8th grade, after which she chose to stay home and help care for her five younger sisters. This marked the beginning of her lifelong devotion to caring for others, a role she embraced wholeheartedly.

On August 17, 1947, Betty married Orvin Anderson at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner, Iowa. The following year, they moved to Britt. Betty began working at Artes Produce, then spent time at Britt Tech before finding her calling at Ewing Funeral Home. There, she worked alongside the Ewing family for more than 30 years, becoming a cherished and dependable presence.

Betty found joy in the simple things—especially her garden and beautiful flowers. She loved baking for others, and her kringla and angel food cake were particular favorites among family and friends. Known as the ultimate caregiver, Betty devoted herself to her husband and extended family, who affectionately called her “Little Grandma.” Later in life, Betty wrote and published an autobiography about her long life which she loved sharing with others. 

A woman of deep faith, Betty was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and an active participant in the Catholic Daughters of America.

Betty is survived by her sisters Ida Floy, Jo Anne (Forrest) Burress, and Louise Zrostlik along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Orvin in 1988, sisters Marie (Clem) Weiss, Josephine (George) Barker, Anna Lou (Glenn) Wille, and Ramona (Allen) Lau-Schmidt, and brothers-in-law Duane Floy and Tom Zrostlik.

Betty’s family sincerely thanks the dedicated staff of St. Croix Hospice and the Westview Care Center for their compassionate care and loving support. Memorials may be directed to St. Croix Hospice, or to the donor’s choice, in honor of Betty.
