Harold Hejlik

Harold A. Hejlik, 95, of Garner, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2024, at Concord Care Center in Garner.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 3, 2024, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Rev. Andrew Marr officiating. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, August 2 at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4thSt., Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Harold Anton Hejlik, the firstborn son of Anton and Rosetta (Phillips) Hejlik, was born February 17, 1929, on the family farm west of Garner. He attended Garfield No. 5 Country School until the eighth grade and helped his family on the farm. Harold served his country in the U.S. Army for two years as a cook during the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Garner and farmed with his brother Art until his retirement. He enjoyed farming, watching television, reading the newspaper, and playing Bingo.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Garner American Legion and served on the board of the Farmer’s Coop Society in Garner for several years.

Harold is survived by his brother, Verne Hejlik and his special friend, Bev Dietrich of Garner; nieces and nephews, Deb (Jim) Rygh of Lake Mills, Susie (Butch) Kozisek of Ventura, Tim (Sharon) Hejlik of Garner, Tony (Mel) Hejlik of Garner and Vindy (Jamie) Johnson of Bloomfield, IA; and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Donald; brother, Arthur (Betty) Hejlik; sister, Marjorie (Bud) Savage; sister-in-law, Delores Hejlik; and niece, Cindy Dodd.
