Harold Bohlen

Harold D. Bohlen, age 86, of Brandon, Florida, formerly of Shakopee, Minnesota, passed away at HCA Florida Hospital in Brandon, on January 3, 2024.

Harold was born on March 1, 1937, in Grundy Center, Iowa, to parents, Harry Netten and Mariam Beenken-Bohlen. Harold was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Judy Bohlen; parents; stepfather, Herman Bohlen and stepmother, Caroline Smith; and niece, Lechelle "Shele" Allgood Flitsch.

Harold met Judy Walk at a business school in Mason City, Iowa, and they were married on August 24, 1958. Together, they left Iowa and ventured to Minnesota to start a new life. 

Harold was an entrepreneur at heart and owned a successful construction company for many years in Bloomington, MN. He also enjoyed coaching his daughter's softball team. Traveling across the United States in the family camper with friends and family was one of the many adventures he loved to do. 

He was a passionate individual, who had a love for automobiles and car racing, a true car enthusiast. He was a skilled mechanic and took pride in maintaining all the family's cars. He had a love for horses and his love for horses led to the purchase of land in Shakopee, MN, where he built a beautiful hobby farm. He enjoyed doing some farming and riding horses with his family.

During his later years, he dedicated his time as a delivery driver for Meals on Wheels in Shakopee, MN. He took joy in delivering meals to individuals who were unable to leave their homes and cherished the conversations he had with the friends he made during his deliveries. He enjoyed spending time with his great grandsons, watching them grow. Harold had great enthusiasm and energy - zest for life and deeply loved his wife, family, friends, and engaging in political debates. If you knew Harold for any length of time, you so became family! His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughters, Keenan (Steve) Burgess, Renae (Ed) Sweeney, Lynette (Tony) Stocker; granddaughter, Shandra (Reggie) Smith; three great-grandsons, RJ, Carter, and Mason Smith; sister, Shelby (Skip) Allgood; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A visitation and celebration of life will be held at McNearney-Schmidt Funeral and Cremation, 1220 3rd Ave. East, Shakopee, 952-445-2755, from 11:00am to 1:00pm on February 10, 2024.
