GHV Special Election, Sept. 10
GARNER – Voters residing in the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura School District are reminded there will be special election on Tuesday, Sept. 10 to consider whether or not to renew the district’s ten-year voted Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL).
Revenue generated from the levy is used for infrastructure and equipment repairs, purchases and other improvements.
Voters will consider renewing the PPEL through 2035 at the existing rate of $0.67 per $1,000 of taxable property value. This levy must be renewed every 10 years to allow the district to access these funds. A simple majority of votes is needed for passage.
The levy generates $450,000 annually.
According to information posted on the GHV website (www.garner.k12.ia.us), renewal of the levy would allow the district to address facility and equipment needs including:
• Repairing and replacing roofs
• Maintaining HVAC systems
• School security improvements
• Technology purchases
• Replacing school buses
• Additional key facility projects
Polls on Tuesday, Sept. 10 will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Registered voters in Hancock County will vote at the Garner Public Library, 416 State Street, Garner. Registered voters in Cerro Gordo County will vote at the Ventura Community Center. Voters are required to provide an approved form of identification at the polling place before receiving and casting a ballot.
Voters may also cast an in-person absentee ballot at the Hancock County and Cerro Gordo County Auditor’s Office, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., through Monday, Sept. 9.
