Darrel D. Freie

Darrel D. Freie, 76, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2026, at MercyOne North Iowa in Mason City. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Hampton is caring for Darrel and his family.

He was born on September 19,1949 to Ken and Idella (Schmidt) Freie. Darrel graduated from Hampton High School in 1968 and NIACC in 1970. Darrel was united in marriage to Rose (Ginder) Freie on February 14, 1973, at the First Christian Church in Hampton. Although his most important job was as a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather; Darrel also worked as a farmer, farm mechanic, welder, and lawn care specialist over the years. Darrel always worked hard to support his family and the local farmers. He enjoyed reading about farm equipment and farming in general, watching westerns, and spending time with his family and his dog, Muffin.

Darrel is survived by daughter Tanya (Lance) Scarrow of Mason City, son Cory (Angela) Freie of Mason City, grandsons Dominick (Shayna) Scarrow and Huxley Freie, granddaughter Alayna Freie, and great granddaughter Noelle Scarrow; brother Norlin Freie and brother-in-law John (Mary) Ginder along with several nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father Ken, mother Idella, wife Rose, brother Darwin, nephew Joey, brothers-in-law Mike Ginder and Harlen Baker, and father and mother-in-law Jerry and Donna Jo Eckman.

Although Darrel requested no funeral services, flowers or memorial gifts may be sent to his home address in Mason City or the Woodley Funeral Home, PO Box 403, Hampton, IA 50441.
