Arlene M. Goepel, 94, of Britt passed away Friday, August 11, 2023, at Westview Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2023, at Britt Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Steve Couch officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm, Tuesday, August 14 at Cataldo Funeral Home, 178 First Ave. S.W., Britt and will resume one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Britt Evangelical Free Church or Westview Care Center in her memory.

Arlene May Goepel, the middle child of Philip and Ada (Salsaa) Johnson, was born September 25, 1928, on a farm in Ellington Township. In 1932, the family moved to Garner where she attended school with the class of 1946.  On January 11, 1946, she was united in marriage to Willard Eugene (Gene) Goepel of Britt. To this union five children were born: Terry Allen, Craig Eugene, Carol Ann, Lana Lea and Marty Jay. Arlene lived in her house for 75 years prior to moving into Westview Care Center in 2021. She enjoyed her family, word find puzzles, reading and playing bingo. Arlene leaves a legacy of love and joy that can be seen in all of her children and grandchildren.

She attended Britt Evangelical Free Church.

Arlene is survived by her five children, Terry Goepel (Craig Remmen) of Mason City, Craig (Jean) Goepel of Britt, Carol (Mark) Evers of Cornelius, NC, Lana Goepel of Maple Grove, MN and Marty (Jennifer) Goepel Mason City; nine grandchildren, Stacey (Kari) Goepel, Sarah (Mark) Burger, Laura (Andrew) Brayton, Ryan (Brandi) Evers, Nathan (Elizabeth) Evers, Kristen (Chad) Lubben, Steven Goepel, Keven Goepel and Michael Goepel; 16 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; a brother, Charles (Virginia) Johnson of Chula Vista, CA; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Dee Kahler, Cynthia O’Shea, Dan Alne and Pearle Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene; and three siblings, Donald (June) Johnson, Wanda (Robert) Hartwig and LaVonne (Richard) Harmon.

Arlene’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude for all the care the staff at Westview gave to their mom during the past two years at the care center.
